I came late to teaching English as a foreign language but wouldn't want to change what I do for any other job!
I have worked for 11 years as a self-employed TEFL teacher in a large village in Andalucía teaching students of all ages and levels.
Since November 2010 I have taught primary age children as an after-school activity at the local school
I also teach adults, secondary school students and some 5 and 6 year olds in my home.
My passions are vocabulary, phonetics and pronunciation. Grammar is important but vocabulary is what makes reading and writing, and listening and speaking interesting!
I use the phonetic alphabet as much as I can because it helps enormously with pronunciation, once you have embraced it!
I use this dictionary to teach vocabulary, pronunciation and phonetics:
Oxford Essential Dictionary: with CD-ROM: For Elementary and Pre-Intermediate Learners of English, available from Amazon.
ISBN-10: 0194317226 | ISBN-13: 978-0194317221
The CD-ROM contains lots of activities and I have designed my own Microsoft Word worksheets to go with it.
If I become your teacher and you buy the dictionary, these worksheets are of course free.
English is such a fascinating language and I love being able to share it with my students!

I am a native British teacher of English and I have been teaching English for 11 years. Teaching English is the most rewarding job I have ever done!
My aim is to give as many English Language learners as possible the tools to learn the skills required in their studies, jobs or professions. One way I help students is to provide them with good websites for learning British English. I spend many hours on Google looking for listening practice and online exercises!
Until now most of my students have been Spanish speakers but I’m really looking forward to teaching students from many other countries!
Here are the books that Teacher Sheila uses for those students who want to pursue a set English (British) course.
